My son played in a baseball tournament this past weekend in Delaware. It was a cool tournament, kind of like a mini Cooperstown.
Here are a few from day 1

These are nice, some have a wierd cool-ish color cast on my monitor. On the plus side, even though the fence would normally bother me it isn't really in these shots, can't say why though.

Thanks. Is it a yellowish cast? I did run a color pop action on some of them. Some were really yellow so I reduced the opacitity way down. I will probably reprocess those, because I thought the same thing but I reduced the opacity a lot , like down to 10%, just enough to give a little more color, and I dont see the cast very much. I also just calibrated my monitor for the first time yesterday before processing these, so, I am wondering if my monitor is off? If you see the yellow I will reprocess them without the pop. Do you only notice it in some or all of these, I think I only ran it on 3 of these.

BTW~ the fence always bothers me, as well as players, coaches and fans in the pics, but I really didn't have a way around it. I either had to shoot through the fence or all the way down behind 1st base line.

No, I'm saying the fence doesn't bother me, at least here, can't say why though. As for the color cast, number 6 shows it the best, its just somewhat more flat and "cool" looking, the others seem to pop more. Don't know, and maybe its just me.

:) I did read that, I was admitting the fence does bother me, but there isn't much I can do about it.

I didnt run the action on that one, maybe it needs it?

:o Oh, hehe, whoops. Anyways, I don't know, why don't you post it after the action? I think that maybe the BG is throwing the tint of the photo off.

what color does the tint look like to you? In that photo I see a bluish cast? Could be from the background and the vest giving the cast... however I see it overall, but not on the skin?

You know what, I shot that one through the fence. I bet the tint is from the black fence.

Carol:
When I look at the large versions they look weird and almost like a painting. This is particularly evident on the arms of the batter in photo 1. Did you do NR on these as that is often the culprit when images look like this? Did you shoot RAW or JPEG? I am not sure what PP you are doing (color pop...opacity??) but for my baseball shots in RAW, I only need to tweak a few exposure / light / dark settings, curves and they are usually good to go. The first 5 images look a bit over processed and I would say it is a yellow tinge that needs to be scaled back a bit.

Yes, it seems bluish, could be the background (skins looks pretty good).

I was there last year at the same tournament for my son for the 12-year old group. It was hot (we did our tournament in August - I was shooting in 100 degree weather)! I had rented a Canon 300 f. 2.8 just for this event. Moreover, in the frenzy of the packing I forgot to pack the monopod, and my older two sons had to fed ex it to me!!

There's nothing much you can do about the cages behind, this the way the fields are set up.

So that you have a comparision (to the OP) from the same event spot against the color cast of your images, I'm posting an image taken at that tournament last year (this is the original image stored online last year - since then I have cropped that mitt and other player out):
