I mentioned in another thread that I set up a mini IR camera in my chickadee house. It's hooked directly to my TV so I can watch the nest anytime, which is pretty cool. I can also make videos like this (external link). Anyway, I was watching a little while ago and my cat walks up and takes a seat:

I got the camera from http://www.birdhousespycam.com/ (external link) . It works pretty well, but I'm having a problem with interference from a local radio station on the audio. It's a Catholic radio station that also broadcasts minor league baseball games. That's not the fault of the camera, just a strong signal I guess (and I have tried using ferrous core chokes with no effect.) Anyway, it's fun to watch and I can't wait until the eggs hatch! Right now it's just a lot of preening, stretching, and snoozing. Here's a photo of the camera in the box.

Perhaps you need a balanced cable if you have a long run.

Neat stuff!

Very inventive of you. I think I might try that with one of my wood duck houses next spring. It would be great to know when the babies are ready to leave the nest so I could get pictures of them jumping to the ground (both videos and stills).

Thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately I don't have the option to switch out the cable since it goes right into the camera. Wish I could! It's a 100' cable and I've used just about all of that length.

Heheh, check out this wood duck jump video (external link). It's from someone here in the Twin Cities area.
