Mixing Personal and Professional Albums?

I am trying to figure out what I should do and would like to get your opinion on this. I have a fotki account where I have been storing all my personal albums for few years now. Lately I have been thinking about selling few prints. Last week I was the official photographer at a graduation and I was asked by few of the parents if they can purchase prints. I am thinking to just post the album on my website and give them the link so they can order the prints. Fotki has a feature where I can set my own price for the prints. Do you think if it’s a good idea to give the link to this album where I have all my personal albums? Another option is to open a pro smugmug account and use that to sell prints and have two separate sites. At this point I don’t think I will have many more events where I will get a chance to sell prints so I am not sure if this is a worthy investment. I can also open another fotki account for selling but I like smugmug interface much more. It looks more professional to me and it can be easily customized.

If anyone who is reading this thread uses fotki to sell their prints, please let me know how they like it and if the print quality is good?

Thank you very much in advance,

Yan

Thanks Tim. I think I am going to look into setting up Pro smugmug account.

I didn't like the prints that came from Fotki. Since then, I've used an Adoramapix account to upload any photos and just provide a link to anyone who wants to buy the photos from there. It's free and a nice stopgap measure short of paying for smugmug or zenfolio ;)

Until I actually start to sell more pictures, its a tough sell to pay the fees for any site..but that's just me.

Thanks for the response. Quality of the prints is one of my main concerns. I ordered prints from fotki few times a little while ago and the quality was inconsistent. One batch was acceptable and the other one was pretty bad. Now they dropped their print price to 9c a pic so the quality probably didn't get any better. I like mpix and whcc but i don't want to deal with taking orders and printing them myself. I checked out Adoramapix but I don't see an option to set your own price. That's one of the features that i am looking for in the host.

I have a Smugmug account. I have all of my personal photos on their too but they are in hidden galleries and can only be seen when I'm logged in. That way customers never even see them. Smuggy is also supposed to roll out their new shopping cart here soon. It's supposed to have coupons, packages and a few other new things.

Thanks for the response. On Fotki I can make a pass protected folder and move all my personal pics there but I don't think i want to do that. I think my main concern as I mention before is print quality. How do you like the smugmug print quality? For some reason not trying smugmug i have a feeling they use a better quality lab then fotki. I hope i am right :) I just purchased a smugmug pro account. With 50% off its not so bad. Let's see if i am going to be able to make that money back :)

Thanks again,

Yan
