Great job here Rebel. These are tac sharp and great color.

We seem to be shooting similar subjects and we both love the 450D so how bad can we be?:D

Two seriously good shots here Iceman. The 55-250 IS is a great leans and a killer lens for the money.

Snow has proven to be a challenge, here is one I took - any c&c is welcome. The snow was falling hard and I took the shot out a window.

Seems the same, oh well...

Shrunk file to fit forums - maybe I should start to host some where so I do not lose quality?

If youre using the hosting program to shrink the file you are probably losing a lot of detail in the picture. If you have photoshop there is a good tutorial on resizing images for the web here https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=265690 . I use photobucket to host my images and they look fine if i resize them using that procedure. hope that helps. Nice shot, BTW :D

Thanks, and thanks for the tutorial, I am going to try it now on the above image. Seems like re-sharpening is really the trick here?

Well mostly just using "automate" and then "save for web and devices" will do the trick. Im sure sharpening afterwards makes a difference but i usually dont need to

And I learned you are very, right. Since an image like that needed an little extra boost :p in the sharpening department when I was playing full size, it really did not need it. I only did like 25% , 1&1 - just to give it that slight clearing (re-focus)... which was not needed.

Thanks again for the tutorial - usually I just lowered resolution, lowered image size, then did a save as (jpg) - and keep lowering the quality until it is between 100-150k.

I believe Canon has a download on their site called "Canon RAW Codec" that should enable this. Unfortunately, if you are running a 64 bit OS this will not work--Canon has only made 32 bit versions of this tool.

^ I know canon raw codec will work on Vista, but I don't think it will on XP.

I had to DL Windows live first. But, I like what I am seeing with viewing the images using Live so far.

Thanks

Anyone ever have "off" days? I feel like everything I have taken the past two days is complete crap.

OK guys and gals...

I got my 450D nearly a fortnight ago and had a try at just a couple of shots, ICE PEARLS and MOSS(https://photography-on-the.net …ead.php?t=525847&page=162)and i was blown by these images....

...but since then i have been less than happy with my 450D. I have seen that the RAW files and TIFF files have been ver very poor in image qualilty with regards being extremly soft and very noisy.

I went out in the Yorkshire Dales and took a number of shots that at the time looked pretty good looking on the cam lcd screen but when on the PC they looked pretty damn poor compared to my 350D.

I did 2 tests with my Tokina 12-24 and took roughly 2 identical shots with the 350D and the 450D. I used USM sharpen and both TIFF files and the 350D file sharpend up as normal, but the 450D TIFF file seemed very soft and even had signs of the image breaking up because of agressive sharpening to try and make the image come to life.

I have spoken to Canon about this and they have advised me to send the cam back to where i got it from and to make a re-order for a replacement, they have said it was a default cam, so hopefully the next one willbe better.

That is a nice pic. Work on composition just a tiny bit and also maybe try adding a Vignette and do more sharpening techniques! But great job!
