Anyone ever have "off" days? I feel like everything I have taken the past two days is complete crap.

Sometimes yeah, but its all about what your taking pics of I think. As long as I get one really good picture in a day of shooting I'm more than happy

That is a nice pic. Work on composition just a tiny bit and also maybe try adding a Vignette and do more sharpening techniques! But great job!

I'll try that thanks for the comment :)

blizzard in New England:

That is a really cool picture of the snow falling looks like stars. Not to be mean, did you leave the curtain there on purpose, or just did not care since you were only sharing the weather?

Tomorrow heading into the city - will make a stop at Rockefeller, I hear Tripods are not allowed. I plan on bringing one anyway, how am I going to get a good picture of the tree, at night, with a kit lens, without a tripod?

shadowman, how did you achieve the lighting in that picture?
I think that makes it stand out the most. I like it.

i left it there on purpose to break up the continuity of the composition.

how can tripods not be allowed at Rockefeller? Thats nuts, bring one anyway.

I think that makes it stand out the most. I like it.

There was a candle light in the window about a foot below the frame that provided perfect ambient light.

The only post processing done here is a move of the tone filter to the left (the picture originally had a more yellowish tone) and a heavier unsharp mask to give it that Christmas Card/Surreal look.

And thank you. :)

You're certainly getting the hang of great compositions. Like the shot of the old store you took, it's just my kinda image. Lovely work.

The PP is awesome - it gives it a very Tim Burton feel to it which adds so much atmosphere....again, lovely work....

Hi! I just got my XSi the week after Thanksgiving (it was an early Christmas gift), and I've gotten some decent shots so far... I find myself shooting a lot in shutter priority mode, but I'm not sure why. As soon as I can post pics, I'll come back and share a few for some CC. :)

really like the picture.
my eyes initially go to the boat, but since it's out of focus, my eyes get frustrated and keep moving to the beach instead.

Man, I just love where the focal plane is in the photo.

Hi guys, some new shots!

I'm really looking for some C&C regarding this pic:

Hi Chris,

Lovely shots - all four of them!

What did you use to get the blue & green lights in the first shot? (coloured torch??) Really effective....

Shot #2 & #3 are just fantastic - personally I prefer #2 by a small margin, I love the expression & atmosphere. The composition is just great in both and I reckon the choice to go B&W was spot on in both cases. With the dog, I think it would work a tiny bit better if the focus was on the eyes, not the nose but it's still a great shot.

If I were to be really picky with shot #2, I would possibly PP the keys out of the shot, and maybe even the hinge & handle....this will allow you to observe the person in greater detail without those distracting elements to draw your eye away from her. Like I say, it's still an amazing shot - one that I would be VERY proud to have taken.

Shot #4 is just 100% perfection to me. Totally my kind of shot - a 'less is more' shot that says so much with so little in the photo. Lovely colours, nice sharp image, great bokeh, composition is perfect....what more can I say??

Keep up the great work.....

I must agree with Mystery Machine. The focus is on everything but her face, too OOF for #2. And with #3 looking at the middle of the dogs muzzle, makes the pic look more like a snap shot. Good job and keep them coming!
