I'm just telling you what I have. I seriously think my 18-55 is junk or something is wrong with it.

I think something must be wrong with it because I love the pictures I get with mine! I am just learning all about lens and settings but for the span it covers it does well for me.
Lets see some photos you have taken and maybe people here can take a look and help you figure out if the lens is responsible or if you just need to try different settings.

it looks like you have only a few pics with the XSi, everything I've seen posted is in the dark (welding ?) with the "exposure compensation" increased a full stop and the ISO at 400
(not good ! )
If you don't know about manual settings and RAW set it on auto, use the highest quality selection - "L" jpeg, standard picture style (maybe increasing the sharpening) and go out on a sunny day, focus (half press shutter) then take a picture of anything, e.g. a house,
if it isn't sharp as this send it back -

IMAGE: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3563/3609773931_0411af0f81.jpg

or look in the lens archive section - the 18-55IS is a very sharp lens!

edit - your first Flickr pic "lowering kit 09 Ram R/T" everything seems to be correct -
ISO 100, f7.1 1/125 sec. - looks sharp and focused !

Had my folks over for Father's Day and my son got sweaty chasing around their dog. Of course he stripped down to his underwear (5 year old logic) because he was hot. Then he decided to ride his bike. Of course he made sure to put on shoes and socks.

Anyway, check out my impromptu panning shot with "flash".

uhh right... if you've been smoking your water bong (and it blew up!)

Uhhhh...or maybe he really does have a bad copy of the kit lens. I'm not all that happy with mine either.

The kit lens is okay for how much it costs but it is a kit lens for a reason, it isn't L quality or the like, can only call a spade a spade.

Anyway, just another from this shoot I've been processing:
