Should I wait for Black Friday maybe? Any buying advice would be much appreciated.

Shop the good places and know the prices you're likely to pay. When you see what you consider to be a good deal, buy. There's always going to be a better looking deal somewhere, sometime. That's life. In contrast, if you wait too long, not only may you miss a good deal, you may also find the model discontinued.

I want to join the XSi crew but am holding off on buying it for a bit because I am completely stingy!

Right now the best deal I've found is a refurbished kit from Adorama for $484 after Bing Cashback.

Ideally I'd prefer to get just the body and a 50mm f/1.8 but I'm not guessing this is possible for a comparable price? It's hard to find body-only refurbs of the lower-end models at a good price. :(

Should I wait for Black Friday maybe? Any buying advice would be much appreciated.

The longer you wait, the fewer pictures you can take NOW. Seriously, there will ALWAYS be a better deal down the road. Is it worth it to wait another month to save another 5%?

How many events will you miss while waiting for that next deal? How many great pictures will not be taken?

Only you can decide. I think you know where I stand.

Just playing with a couple blah photos on photoshop. These were taken with the 50 1.8. Just playing, what do you think?

Well, my biggest concern was if there was any way to get a refurb body + 50mm prime for a little more than the refurb kit. The price of the refurb kit isn't as much an issue as $484 is quite a bit less than new+retail.

Black friday deals are pretty worthless so far too! Not much of a surprise, I guess. I'll just go with the kit lens for now.

Have you looked into buying a used, but mint unit here on POTN?
