Nope I didn't the 430 kind of has one built into it although it's kind of a clear diffuser.

That's how the canon shop owner was explaining it to me. But I may get some later on though or some gel packs.

That diffuser is actually meant for wide-angle lenses -- in other words it scatters the light rather than just soften it, although "regular" diffusers tend to scatter light as well.

DonJuan, it's only for the weekend. We'll be there Fri night until Sunday evening. If you do get a flash I highly recommend getting a diffuser so it will bounce the light more evenly.

I dread coming to this thread now. All the spider images really turn my stomach (the subjects, not the images quality).

I'm just finishing Understanding Exposure and I really like it. It gives a great overview and some very handy tips for getting the perfect "creatively correct" exposure in various lighting situations. The writer is a bit of a ham which makes what could be a dry book rather fun to read. His example shots are great too.

do u like the picture of his wife in the pool..lol?

You should def go downtown, youll love it down there, much more interesting than the new strip. You could try to go to Red Rock Canyon, i know they do a sunrise horse ride out there, plenty of amazing pic opportunities there. They arrange that at Red Rock Hotel and Casino if you want to do that, also the valley of fire is amazing, thats about 40 miles from the strip. Very Cool though, and of course the Grand Canyon..... still havent done it yet but we will sometime :)

I'm really liking the grass with the spiderweb. Barely noticeable until you see it.

Thanks!

Hey, I noticed a couple of guys mentioning some books, (the field guide, exposure, and shutter speed one). Could I please have the link to where they are sold?

Sounds interesting, I'm trying to work on my exposure - and one other thing i need to get a hang out is using the right metering mode for situation.

Amazon.com is a good online source: just type the name of the book in the search box.

If you live near a major book store such as Borders or Barnes and Noble they have pretty good sections for photography/camera books as well as for software/post processing solutions.
