I'm trying to decide between these two---the Think Tank Bazooka or the Gitzo Tripod Bag--for my Gitzo 2531 and RRS BH-40 head.
Anybody have any experience with or opinions about either?
Thanks!

I have the Think Tank Bazooka. I also have a 2530 and Markins Q3. The legset fits great in the Bazooka. The Bazooka is a great design and adapts to the size of the legset. It is well padded and wears well.

I have a Gitzo GT2530 and a RRS BH-40. I also have the Gitzo tripod bag. The tripod with ballhead fits right into the bag with no problems. In fact, there is room left over and I will sometimes put my matching Gitzo GM2540 monopod in there too. Anyway, the bag is well made, heavily padded and quite roomy. It has an inside pocket where I keep tripod-related accessories, such as a cable release and bubble level. All the hardware on the bag such as the zippers and clips are heavy duty, and it has a padded adjustable shoulder strap. All in all, an expensive bag, but worth the price in my view.

I have a Think Tank and love it. I really like how it unzips at the top and you just pull the tripod out. Beside being way cheaper in cost, I think its a better design and offers more protection...Jeff

I just bought the Gitzo bag for my 2530 and Acratech Ultimate ballhead. I bought the size that Gitzo recommends for the 2xxx series but I think it would have fit into the 1xxx series bag.

tgara sums it up, very well made, all attachment hardware is metal, zippers are very heavy duty. I went with the gitzo because I wanted a slim bag. It's just wide enough to fit what you need.

Thanks for the comments!

I'm in exactly the same position. I was moving towards the bazooka but if the gitzo is a slim fitting bag this really appeals to me. I want a bag that will offer protection but also one that won't take up too much space if I was to put it in my suitcase when traveling abroad.

why the need for a bag? I use a nice padded strap with a DIY spectra leash on it that's super easy to "deploy".

I've got the bazooka. I like it for its relatively firm cylinder that makes carrying the tripod less fidgety, and provides some nice protection when stuffing it as overhead luggage and prevents things from whacking the legs. I don't know which gitzo bag you're looking at but they seem overpriced to me and not as well designed overall as the less expensive Thinktank Bazookas are. I like the way the Thinktank works, closes and carries better than the other tripod bags I've seen out there.

I've had tripod straps fail, I prefer a closed case for overall better security when bumping the tripod about while traveling and no risk of a failed strap braking my ballhead or macro focusing rail (which has happened to me in the past).

Bazooka all the way. I usually attach a optech tripod strap to it to make it more comfortable.

I'd suggest a third choice, the Kinesis tripod bags.

I have one of these and it is great. It can be carried by hand, by shoulder strap, by backpack strap. it is padded in places, it holds the tripod securely and is not bulky.

Do the Bazookas have a pocket somewhere for carrying accessories...or the disconnected head during travel?

No pockets. I'm curious, why would you remove the head and then carry it in the bag with the tripod?
