Hi All,

Finally got round to posting a selection of my photo's of this years Le Mans Legends Race. This year the Legends race focused on cars which raced at Le Mans in the legendary Group C era (80's - 90's) - and what a fantastic grid Motor Racing Legends put together. The cars were absolutely fantastic, and a pleasure to see on track again. Seeing cars such as the Aston Martin AMR1 (as driven by the late David Leslie), Jaguars XJR 9's & 12's, Sauber Mercedes, Porsche 962's etc. racing around the Le Mans circuit once again really was a special.

I have tried to put together a set of photo's which show off some of the more popular cars, and as always C+C's are welcomed. Hope you like them.

If there are any particular cars which were racing in this race that you would like to see a photo of, let me know and I will post any I have taken in this thread.

#1 An elegent looking Jaguar XJR 5 (Group C3) rounding the Mulsanne Corner during Wednesday evening's qualifying session.

#2 A Kenwood liveried Porsche 962C making its way through the Mulsanne Corner during Wednesday evening's qualifying session.

#3 The fantasticly aggressive looking Nissan R90-CK with lights ablaze. This car put in a fantastic qualifying time to put it second on the grid, however early problems in the race meant it didn't reach the chequered flag unfortunately.
IMAGE: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i42/Kevbuts/Le%20Mans%202008/LM2008-215.jpg

#4 The beautiful Aston Martin AMR1 carried a black band over it's front wheel arch in memory of the late David Leslie whom need's no introduction. What a sad sad loss to the motorsporting fraternity.
IMAGE: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i42/Kevbuts/Le%20Mans%202008/LM2008-029.jpg

#5 The very fast Justin Law at the wheel of the Le Mans winning Jaguar XJR 12 flying through the Tetre Rouge Esses on the way to the Mulsanne Straight.

Great pics and evoke some fantastic memories.

Do you have any of '88 Shell / Dunlop 962s? Car 17, 18 or 19?

Thanks for the positive comments, glad you like shots.

Don - I believe I do have another photo of the Jag XJR 5, but a rear shot. Not sure it's a great one but I will post it up on here tomorrow for you.

rs666 - Despite the Shell / Dunlop Porsches being advertised as being at the race, I don't recall actually seeing them! Hence I don't believe I have any photo's. I will double check though, and obviously if I do find any I will post them for you.

This car was in our paddock but I don't think it raced

Shame it didn't race as it's a lovely car. I guess there must have been a problem with it then?

Don - As promised I had a trawl through my photo's and managed to find the following shot's of the Jaguar XJR 5 for you. I understand that this car was the first recent (at the time) Jaguar to run at Le Mans since the 1950's, and was run by a privateer team a citing exercise for the factory cars to be entered the following year. Is that right?

The Group C and the US IMSA GTP were always one of my favorite racing series. I will never forget the horrific GTP wreck involving Doc Bundy in a Hendrick Motorsports Corvette, Lynn St. James in her Zakspeed/Roush Mustang Probe and Chip Robinson in the Group 44 Jaguar XJR. It may be one of the worst wrecks ever at Riverside (1986). Everyone walked away. I was able to see the GTP cars run several times at road Atlanta. Great stuff!

Oopps. My mistake. I was getting it confused with the similar looking Martini liveried LC2. You're correct, the shot above is indeed an Argo, not the Lancia. I have edited this now.

Thanks for the kind comments from everyone. Glad you like the photo's :D

The black "armband" was originally in memory of a former Aston Team manager but the car has been run in the last few years without it.

Nice to see the Sauber-Merc C9 Kev. It's one of the only "major" Group C cars that i haven't seen on track yet.

QUOTED IMAGE

Ah the memories. I sat in that car the following year at a show, talked with an old guy on the stand for an hour or so about Jaguars and even met Martin Brundle. I think I even have the signed poster of it tucked away somewhere.

I was 11 at the time and to a certain extent, that show and my overall experience from it gave me my fascination with cars/ racing and everything motorised. My schoolboy dream of owning a Jag have long since faded to other exotica though!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. :D
