I often use my photos to "create" something different.
The photo attached was made out of two photos with a bit of PP.
Is it still considered a photo or is it cheating?
I would appreciate your comments.

That totally depends what you mean with "cheating".
I personally (and most nature photographers I've talked to) consider it a manipulation if you use more than one exposure to create a photograph. So I would call your work a photo manipulation, but if that's cheating or not is up to you. Unless you hide the fact that it is a manipulation I wouldn't feel cheated so to speak.

It's manipulation, and a good one at that. I do like it.

Now do more and post in the Experimental section. Good to see some artisic creativity around here...

It all depends the final purpose for the pic:

News/PJ - Yes cheating. The line for what is admissible (in the creative aspect) stops at long exposure shots of rivers and such. I think for a news piece a respectable newspaper may have problems accepting an HDR pic made from 3 bracketed frames (to post a similar example of a composite pic made from multiple shots).

Art (or anything else) - not cheating.

As long as you label it Photo Art and refer to it in that manner you are fine.

"Photo Art" tells the viewer it is a composite and has been manipulated in some way.

Offering it as a Photograph would be untrue.

Straight from the "Things that make you go HUH?" department.

Please post at least one link to a dictionary or glossary in which the term Photograph is defined as "that which is unmanipulated".

Sure, "Photo Art" may emphasize the creative aspect (and is a little pretentious to boot - and living in Irvine, I know pretentious), but to say that it is not a Photograph - LightWriting - is just plain wrong.

yes you qualify

Don't understand how TWO photographs can be labeled as A photograph.

As long as it's not going into a newspaper as fact, do what you want. It's all art.

Hummmm....we're all guilty of "manipulating" an image now and then. But to what degree is the question. Cheating in the true sense = art. Adjusting curves, saturation, etc... = photograph.

I'd call it an image, not a photograph, and I'd call it art. I like it, it's a cool image!
