Hi, new to the forum.

I just bought a brand new canon 40d a few days ago. I love it but i'm used to shooting with Olympus so im still learning my way around the camera.(also the 100mm macro I bought is amazing!)

The question I have is: I like to shoot in raw format. When ever I switch the camera over from Jpeg(or L on the camera) to Raw,It switches back to JPEG when the camera is turned off then on again. Is there a way to make RAW the default or will I just need to switch back and forth whenever camera is turned on.

Thanks for reading(and hope I posted in right thread)
~Brian

That is very strange. Are you sure you aren't just shooting in one of the automatic modes (green square, portrait, landscape, etc) I know those automatically produce jpegs. My 40D always shoots in RAW.

Thanks
I had it on C1...I switched over to P and it solved the problem. I didnt know that automatic modes always shot in JPEG now I do.

Problem solved.
Thanks again.(ive only had the camera for 2 days and not a canon user so bear with me.)

You've probably got this already ... but changes to the 'Custom' settings must be registered or they are forgotten when the camera is turned off.

Saving certain 'favorite' settings helps me avoid times when I've left the creative mode in iso1600, or 2nd curtain flash etc ..

1.6 crop & some lenses
