Lonely

what do you guys think of this? Constructive criticism would be awesome.

i take lots of pictures of clouds
i'd love to see this picture with clouds and without
to compare the 2.......
the mood is very good.....

Thank you. Yeah, i kinda liked the one cloud thing. There were a few stray ones lower that i photoshpped out that added nothing. I can see how a few big ones would add

generaly big clouds are better
but since its B&W i think its ok
particuarly if you said you looked at it

Oh i know. I wished there were more clouds, but the ones that were there were right on the horizon and weren't big and moody!

i'd like to see it with absolutley no clouds.. other than that, a great capture. good work!

edit: i figured out why i like it so much! i did something very similar to this right here: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthre​ad.php?t=512067 but just took in a diffrent direction
again, good work! i want to see it with no clouds though!

but the lonely tree needs a friend to play with !

It's a great shot and good processing. My only issue is that I think it's too centred, both the horizon line and the subject. But perhaps that was intentional.

The horizon line is a skew. I like how you have 1/2 the picture sky and 1/2 grass with the tree in the middle, I guess I would rather a crop to make the tree appear larger say 1/4 of the grass. I like it, the cloud does work, I just would like to see the tree a bit more majestic in it's lonely state.

can't please 'em all! yeah i wanted it to be centered i guess. Honestly I dont know what i wanted =]

It is a lovely shot. The processing is very well done, with a very appealing set of grays. The single cloud works well as a counterpoint to the tree. The horizon could be changed, but I would NOT straighten it, I would increase the angle so the tree is closer to vertical.


The one area where you go off the rails is in the framing you chose. As presented it is drastically out of balance. Sky is, for lack of a better word, visually "light" and the amount of earth you show really overwhelms the shot.

Now of course, it is your photograph, and therefor your call - but if you were to crop the bottom 20 percent or so, and enter this in a juried contest you would have a good chance at placing. Enter it as framed and it wouldn't even get accepted.

My suggestion is a crop like below.

nice thanks for your suggestion. I dont think the horizon could ever be straight since the whole thing is curved anyways
