I need to get some UV/protections filters for my new lens. Price is not an issue can you reccommend a good UV filter.

I have really no idea where to start. I hear hoya are good.

Canon 40D
EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro
EF 28-135 IS
EF 50mm f/1.8
Tokina 11-16 f/2.8

There is a constant battle between the proponents of using a protective filter and those who state that any filter degrades imagery. I am not going to join into that argument.

If you want to use a UV filter, I personally like Schneider B&W filters best followed by the multi-coated Hoya Pro filters.

If you use a UV filter, make sure that it is top line. It would be a shame to pay the price for a top-line lens and degrade its imagery by using mediocre or bad filters. By the way, Canon filters are not great and Tiffen, which was once the leader of the industry, no longer seems to produce great filters.

I vote for Hoya SHMC. To me personally B+W is ridiculously expensive.

I've tried Hoya and Kenko. No complaints so far.

I only use B+W filters, and I recently scratched the filter on my 16-35. This filter was by far the largest and most expensive filter, but small in price compared to the actual lens!

I've used some S&W multicoated UV filters, around $10.. My pictures seem sharp enough, but that could just be me..
