How many Flash gurus out there use gels or colored inserts for your flash to match ambient light?

I've read that advanced techniques with flash include say using a colored gel or insert when shooting say under tungsten light. That way your flash coverage temp matches your ambient surroundings. Granted every event I've ever been at and seen a photographer, I've never seen them using a color insert.

Now...if this is important, I've read that using a gel that is simply taped against the flash head can melt against the flash head if it popped at full power, which scares me a bit. I also have seen Sto-fen diffusers sold in different colors for this though which would seem a better option. I don't suppose LumiQuest makes colored inserts for it's Promax system? i only ever see gold and silver.

anyway, any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I use CTO gels extremely often for indoor shoots, and I've seen a few others who do the same. I've had no issue with melted gels, but I don't a quantum turbo or other fast battery pack.

I use them and I tape them to the flash head and I've never had a problem with them warping/melting.
