I'm going to have an interesting fall, but its time for some preemptive thought.

To make a long, kinda interesting story short, I shoot for a yearly publication in Minnesota often called the "Encyclopedia of Minnesota High School Sports." They have been publishing a football book for six years and now have four others sports - including my own, hockey :)

They also host several tournaments for basketball each year and let me have full access to anything I need to advertise photos for sale. I did my first tournament last weekend and have received tons of hits and a few requests.

The owner knows many, many, many coaches and is willing to contact the coaches prior to the game - to refer them to my website.

The problem is that there will ALWAYS be coaches/students who don't care with parents who do, but don't know.

That said, how do you effectively market photos to an audience at a fairly large high school football game? I can make cards or whatever, but I'm hoping for other methods.

Thanks!

Any way the coaches would be willing to provide an email list of the player rosters. That way you could sent out marketing email which would likely get to the parents who do care.:D Otherwise have someone handing out cards and fliers to the people in the stands during the game. Of course if you're shooting you'll need someone else to do this.

Good Luck

Rich

Sorry, I am not familiar with the "system", but is there not some sort of "program" that could advertise you web site/services?

It won't hurt to ask.

This would be OK, but each team has its own program, and I have no idea which team(s) I will be covering from week to week.

Get in touch and communicate directly with the Parent boosters club! They are the active parents - get involved in their club!

Redfish is right... ask the coaches to put you in touch with the booster clubs. In most cases you'll have a hard time getting much more than lipservice from the coaches anyway. Don't take it personal - they really ARE that busy and they depend on boosters to take care of things like that for them.

I wouldn't count on getting rosters with email info. Most coaches are not that organized and even if they did have the information readily available I can't imagine any school giving out students contact information. If the coach/booster club does have a mailing list you might ask them to send a message to their email distribution on your behalf telling them which game you'll be at and giving them a link to your site.

You might also try the webmaster if they have one. Most football teams here in Georgia have a website just for football (usually operated independant of the school's website). You could offer the webmaster a few free images (watermarked with your addy of course!) in exchange for posting a link to your site. Most kids LOVE seeing their pictures online ... if I don't have the shots from Friday night up by Monday morning I start getting emails ... if there is a link they'll follow it.

The school system may be limited in how much they can do for you depending on what kind of exclusivity their contract photographer has. I'm our Booster Club President and the webmaster for our football site ... if you wanna reach MY kids/parents..... I'm your newest bestest friend!!! :)

Have the announcer at the game refer to your site or table. I request this at all events... sometimes they will - sometimes they wont. But you dont know if you dont ask

Take some time to read through the forum shmeech, this thread was started by someone else about his topic, don't change it to yours; you already posted your own.

Which 70-200 should I get? ....:)

Ok I had a laugh... Shmeech. Welcome to the forum. This is a very helpful place but learning to use the search feature first before asking is VERY appreciated. There is an AMAZING amount of info out there already posted.

Now back to the OP's topic
