Barn Swallow & Avocet

I use print screen to capture image and then use paint inorder to downsize the file to the limit imposed. In this process I observed that I lost a lot of picture quality and lighting. I will appreciate your advise on this.

Also C&C appreciated.

there are more technical ways to process your images. For a start there are some reasonable camera software packages that will help as an introduction and then there is Photoshop which can be quite technical for depending ones ability.

These look quite goos as they are. I'd like to see some of your others.

I already use Photoshop for PPing. But the problem is for posting the pics in this forum, I use paint tool inorder to downsize the pic under 100KB. In the process i've noticed a marked decrease in pic quality.

If you have the pics hosted at high quality on another server, just link to those pics in this forum by starting a post and then click the little yellow "Insert Picture" Icon above the text box, then paste in the link to the pic on the other server and click OK.

Oh I'm glad you are using PS for your excellent images.

Image sizing:

I open the image in CS3, Image->Image Size (ALT+CTRL+I).

Make the longest edge 1000 pixels (or the desired length -1000pix is the max for this Forum).

Image -> Mode 8 Bits/Channel

Then File->Save As (to where you want it to be saved). Choose your Image Options Quality level and Save.

I just performed the exercise on a RAW image and saved it for a file size of 270Kb and again at 90kB and 65Kb. The 90kb images is visibly no different to the larger file and the 65kb image is fine for posting.

My ISP lets me have some webspace. I then send the file to that webspace using my favourite FTP program. create a URL for it and link it to this posting with the "Insert Image" tile/button on the post editor (?) window.

Here's the 65K image. Normally I post at about 250Kb or so.

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

As for posting...I usually post in the 250kb size...but I link from Photobucket so it doesen't contravene the 100kb limit on POTN as I'm not taking up POTN space..
