I hate slim polarizers. I have the Hoya Pro 1 Digital for mine and love it. I just like being able to put the lens cap back on. I have a slim for my 24-70 and dont really care for it. Personal preference though.

Another vote - same one that I have, although I use it on a 17-40 with my 5D.

You really want to be able to easily put the lens cap back on. Also, the non slim has enough "thickness" to it that I can reach into when the lens hood is on and turn the CPL with my fingertips very easily. I also use the CPL a lot with my 24-105. I'm not sure you would be able to do this with the slim version; probably not enough "grip" on it.

I have it on both my 1d3 and 5d and haven't realized any significant problem. :)

I don't think slim is needed.
I have a Käsemann, (albeit smaller sized) and it's very good.

Rodenstock makes a very high quality circ. polarizer... comparable to Kaesemann but not the same "brand name" label (it is a technique that B+W owns the trademark on but other manufacturers can make similar quality).

Non-Slim Kaesmann for me. No vignetting on 5d. The images you can make with it are as heart-stopping as the price.

Hi. Denny G. If you are shooting landscape predominantly do you also use square filters ie. Grad ND's? If so why not go with the CPL that fits in the holder. I have a Cokin P series (okay not the best) but it does what I need it to do and as I use Grad ND's I have the CPL in the first slot next to the lens. It works fine on my Tamron 17-35. I can then enhance the shots with various filters.

I do also have the PRO 1 on another lens.... but that is mainly my walk-about lens and with my lens hood on it makes it difficult sometimes to alter the CPL.

It's only a thought.

Sure thing amoergosum - this was shot at 24mm with the 24-105 on my 5D. There was a modest amount of PP in CS3, but without the CPL capturing the initial contrast of the sky with the clouds, I could not have ended up with this result.

Landscape photography, so I expect that you use ND Grads as well as a polariser. I recommend Lee Filters. I have the filter kit, but reduced the number of slots from 3 to 1, allowing me to have an ND Grad and the 105mm CPL filter on the 16-35mm without vignetting. Alos got a 82-105 stepup ring allowing me to put the CPL directly on the lens without the holder.

Hi Marc, no - I don't use any ND filters. I'm pretty simple in the gear I use and even more lazy about how much stuff I like to lug around.

A lot of the areas I go to are either in inclement weather, a little bit precarious for walking, or don't lend themselves to switching out filters easily. So I tend to set up the camera and leave it that way; I scout a lot of my urban landscapes in advance as I did with this venue.

I actually own only two filters: this CPL and a high quality UV, and they "travel" from lens to lens. Everything is shot in RAW and I tend to expose for the highlight, rotating the CPL and looking through the viewfinder until I get the desired effect. And by using ACR on the RAW file , creating a few adjustment esposure layers in PP, I find I can "reclaim" about 2 - 1 1/2 stops up and down of that midpoint exposure.

I don't stack my filters. More glass/media and you introduce a greater potential for distortion.

This is were film has always had the edge on digital: tonal range. It is possible to achieve quite good range in digital and I have, but you have to do a lot of futzing around with exposure "tricks" and tweaks.
