Hi all,
Hope your all well. I've not posted for a while, new job taking up a bit too much time for my liking. :(

Anyway i've got a soft spot for the crow family although I know they can be ruthless with smaller birds. They all have a place.
I've been feeding a group of about 25 Jackdaws and lately a few Rooks have been getting a bit braver and joining the party raiding my sunflower feeder.

Thought nothing of it as they soon fly off if anyones around. Then yesterday I called home whilst out of the office and found a juvenile rook hanging by the neck in the loop of the feeder pole. I didnt photo the poor guy as i was more concerned about saving him. Managed to get him free although I fear he damaged his neck in the struggle. He flew off all be it a bit unsteady.

Hope hes OK.

Heres a couple of shots of one of the adults prior to the incident.

Nice shots Phil. I'd love to see the guys in person. I hope the poor guy is OK. Maybe just put the seeds on the ground? Some birds really prefer that, like our Cardinals. They are happiest scratching around in the grass.

Really nice pics, Phil.

Mitch, I agree with you about seeds on the ground. Here it seems that the cardinals have an agreement with the mourning doves - the doves scatter seed to the ground for the cardinals and the squirrels clean up what the cardinals don't eat.

Thanks Mitch and Jess, I appreciate your comments. :)

I've got a flat topped table feeder also and ground food, 30 plus crows clear everything in about an hour then while i'm out they take on the hanging feeders.

Thanks again for the comments. :)

Thanks Carlton,
New jobs going great but more hours than i'm used to. Lost a lot of half days here and there.

Not surprised there's no kingys at westport after ther bushes were chopped down, it looked like a bomb site last time i went down.

Take care mate, catch up soon. :)
