This second baseman made a nice play going up for a high throw and making the tag while he was still up there. My back hurts just looking at him.

Ooohhhhhhh! Very nice!

They are both excellent shots. Crisp whites, absolute peak action. You'll not get much critique from me as I've never shot anything so nice.

Thanks very much. The shots really aren't that great of a capture on my part. I was prefocused on second base so when the throw went high the second baseman turned it into a good capture.

Nice job, timing nice on second. The first one has you wondering what is happening, the second finishes the story!

i like the 1st one better, because it's the perfect making of a great image, and keeps the viewer guessing if he was safe or out.

Images from 300mm f/2.8 and a sportshooter always blew you away. This is another sample.

True, but from a photojournalistic viewpoint I'd rather the viewer know the outcome of the play by looking rather than having to say in the caption "___ was out on the play".

I posted these two photos not to have the viewer guess whether the runner was "safe" or "out." I did so because I was so impressed by the second baseman's ability to go high to make the catch and still get his glove down to make the tag, all while still high in the air. In looking at the image he appears to have never come down from the peak of his leap but if you look at his thighs you can see in the bottom image that they are bent a tad and his feet are a bit higher as he is bending his legs up as he swings his arm down to apply the tag, thereby giving the illusion that he hasn't moved much. My favorite part of the image is the tape wrapped around the toe of his right shoe.
