Senior portraits?

Hey all

I was wondering how people got started in doing high school senior portrait and sports photography? I currently don't have my own studio setup, and would likely only be able to shoot on location. However, I don't even have any direct connections with any local high school. How would one go about soliciting services to students? Is there a proper way to do it?

i would start w/ family members still in HS if i were you. lucky for me, i have a little brother and 2 cousins that will be seniors in HS. i shot their senior pictures while still in school and made a portfolio for each of them to take to school and show their friends. i also gave them stacks of flyer's and business cards. the HS prints out a newspaper twice a month and placed some ads in their paper as well.
