Got my Sekonic L-308S in the mail today. Really excited... till I used it.

Incident with dome consistantly gives me about 2 stops OVEREXPOSURE compared to in-camera reflected meter. Badly blown highlights. Yes, that is correct, the camera gives a better image. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Check to see if the settings on the meter are the same as camera such as ISO and shutter speed.

Just a few things to clarify:
1) You're metering ambient light, not flash. Correct?
2) You're putting the meter where the subject is and aiming the dome toward the camera's position. Correct?

I don't have a 308S, but the 358 has two compensation functions: Exposure compensation and calibration compensation. Check the operating manual and then check the unit to make sure both of these are set to zero.

JG- Yes, they are set properly.

Curtis- Correct.

Haven't been able to see any adjustment options, other than something that says Custom Setting- which briefly mentions "To match your camera, you can set the setting value and display value to full, 1/2, or 1/3 stop."

Also, I am not using very high end equipment here. The body/lens I was testing it with was the XT with the 28-105mm lens.

I also have the XTi with the 85mm mounted on it, but haven't tried that yet.

Confusing, as I can't find any references anywhere to this happening to anyone.

Well I'm all out of ideas. Maybe slide the dome out and then back into place. Could be it's not snapped into position properly, or there's something under the dome blocking the sensor.

I'm curious how well it works in reflected light mode.

Alright, well- I'll check back in tomorrow. Maybe I'll change the battery too, even though it registers fine. Agrivated tonight. Start fresh tomorrow.

OK as an update. It still does it with new battery. dome looks clean and little glass sensor cover looks clean as well. Think it is just a dud, and am going to try sending it back. Thanks for the help folks.
