If you had to shoot a group session (7 people) would you prefer mid morning or evening and why?

Clients will be wearing white shirts with khaki or blue jeans.

Hmmm... Im just a newbie but Id say depending on where your shootin' I go for early evening. If the family ran late then mid morning can turn in to mid-day pretty quickly with bright sun, if you can get every one to say early evening and then that turns in to the pretty evening light you'd be set. But I may be waaay off base cause like I said Im new at all this. The few shoots that I have done for actual paying people though I prefer to do in the evenings.

suns sets around 8:30pm where I am and it will be at the clients house in the country. They do have some trees on the back property, but they would like to get the photo around an antique wagon in their front yard and/or a John Deere tractor they have.

The tractor and wagon plus the country setting should make for great props and backdrop! Maybe someone else will chime in with more help on your question.

Good luck and be sure to post up when your finished.

I will post some photos when I am done, but the session is not for another two weeks. I was just getting a feel for what others thought.

Anymore?

Depends on what direction the light best serves your need's for the proposed backdrops.

What direction are you gonna be shooting with the wagon backdrop.

with the wagon I I would be shooting towards the west or towards the south. If I shoot towards the east and northeast it would include their house.

The tractor works, so it can be moved to whereever I need it.

Evening for me, since I get up at the 'crack of noon'. If it's outside, the grass is dry, & the good light seems to linger longer.

Depends on what direction the background will be in? Otherwise, AM. If it rains, you might still have PM to shoot.

I did a shoot just like that mid-morning of my family. It's on my site. Although I still needed flash in some of the locations.

Really depends on location though and where the sun would be.

I just did an e-session this morning (we started at 6:30). I also convinced the B&G in Mexico to be up at 6AM for beach portraits after their wedding. Light is [generally] cleaner and more pure in the morning, at least to my eyes, and that's what I tell them.
