A prior friend of mine did that and I have NO idea why she did that. It always ended up at some awkward 60-80 degree angle instead of straight up. No need to go into details about why she's a prior friend, but it has nothing to do with photography.

I do that every once in a while, to get a certain angle when I can't move around or if I don't want my arm and elbow sticking out. Like when in a crowd and I don't want to block anyone's view.

There was a POTN poll a while back about whether you shot with the camera rotated clockwise or counter-clockwise when shooting in portrait orientation. I thought that a surprising number said they shot clockwise like in this pic.
