Critique this flower please

Honestly, I don't think a crop will help this shot be " the " one. Too busy.Re take with the flower being the prime focus, another angle perhaps?

The primary problem here is not cropping - it's the lighting.

The subject is in the shade and is backlighted. While taking the flower in the shade the brightly lighted background is also in the scene. To that extent it could be considered a cropping problem. However, I think it would get too complex to fix it now with cropping.

Better to just learn to get the lighting correct in the setup before shooting. In other words, spend more time thinking about composition, lighting, vantage point and perspective. Before you would crop a photo, it is presumed that all of those other issues were already dealt with properly.

I think that the shot, in its present form, is too soft and its light is too flat. You could try to improve the shot with selective sharpening and dodging the flower to separate it from the background.
