I attend his seminar earlier this year and was intrigued by it. However, I do have some questions though about it.

http://www.photovisionvideo.com …=DT6020&Category_Code=DCT (external link)

like for example.. if your shooting your subject, you can ask them to hold the card and take a photo of it. but do you need to tilt it at a certain angle to so it will factor in the light that's hitting on the subjects' face?

cuz they said you can also just toss it on the ground and take a photo of it and use that as the custom WB to shoot the subject. if on the ground it'll be parallel to the floor, which would mean it'll be getting 100% of the light hitting the floor; as compared to let's say 50% of light if it's 180 degree with the subjects.

I know there's several type of WB stuff out there.. but I'd really like to hear some feedback and comment on this.

thanks.

If you're using calibration targets I'm assuming you're shooting RAW. In which case throwing the target on the ground and snapping a pic is useful mostly for PP white balance. Otherwise, you would normally want to place the target at the same angle and lighting conditions of the subjecting your trying to shoot.

At least that's my take on it. Oh, and I do have this calibration target.

The DVD that comes with the calibration reflector shows the 6" reflector works just fine. I have the 14" or whatever the midsized one is. It works well, but I often forget to pull it out and balance off it. When I'm doing more studio type work I consciously try to use it. It does help with WB in PP using the dropper method in Lightroom or DPP and applying the WB setting to all the pics as long as your lighting is the same for said pics.
