Well I just bought a SD700 online from bestbuy. Upgrading my ancient brick the S200! It's been a great little camera (survived 2 drops on concrete!) but it's slow and battery life sucks. I'm pretty excited for the new (refurb) camera to come! This is really just something for me to use as a backup/when DSLR is too big. Something fun I can carry in my pocket.

I was really considering the S80 (or S70 for RAW) because they use the same battery as the XTi. But I just can't seem to find a good price on them-they are all going for over $200 on ebay which I think is too much for a used 3yr old P&S.

Does anyone have the SD700IS? 6mp really should be enough (I had a Sony H5 before my XTi.. 7.1mp). It only goes up to ISO800 but P&S suck past ISO400 anyways. I think this is where Image Stabilization might really be handy for low light work. Also, is there really much difference between digic II and III?

Heres a link to the camera.. pretty good price I think.

The SD700 was one of the best (some say THE best from an IQ perspective) SD cameras ever produced. That price of $129 for a refurb is excellent!

I think you made a great choice! :)

I just picked up an SD1000 and love how small it is! I was actually surprised by the quality of pictures it takes as well. I dont believe a P&S camera with these focal lengths needs IS so that was not as important to me as the overall smallness of the camera was. I wanted something that would be super portable and fun to carry with me and use at parties, out with friends, or to be passed around at family functions.

Isn't it amazing what they can squeeze into such a small package. The SD series really punches above its weight class :)

Defintely. I have the SD800 and it really is the ultimate social camera (especially with the 28mm wide end). You can pass it around and anyone (well almost anyone ;)) can take a great pic.

I'm not so sure about that one - although I get why you say it. Of course IS is invalueable with my S3 - especially when using the Sony 1.7 TC, which brings the tele end out to 700+mm. However low-light shooting and the resulting slower shutter speeds benefit greatly from IS - even at fully wide. (especially if the ISO is kept at a reasonable level - 200 or below).

Bottom line: the SD series is a real winner. :)

Kind regards,

James
