I'm working tomorrow night's game, and if things don't turn around in today's match, tomorrow's event will see the Cubs fighting to avoid being swept. http://www.denniswierzbicki.com

Use a program like Photo Mechanic or PS CS3. However, you can only check up to the MKIIN & 1DsMKII. The MKIII's are not able to be read by any program at this point. To my knowledge, only Canon can tell how many shots have been run thru the III's. If, I'm wrong, let me know JamesFacebook Profile

Photo Mechanic can show the actuation count on Canon pro bodies. In the default configuration, this field doesn't appear, so it needs to be added (under "Edit- Set Info Text"). http://www.denniswierzbicki.com

There is also a Mac program called Exif Viewer that can show actuations (second image). http://www.exifpro.com/ Non-pro Canon's can also be read with EXIF Viewer but the data need interpretation. Thanks dennis! Just downloaded and used the exif viewer for the mac, just over 16,000 shots on my Mark II.
