Ok, Im sure this is an easy one for most of you! I've had my S5 for a while and Ive gotten pretty good at "people" but besides that and some still wildlife shots that's about all Ive done. I am going to an air show tomorrow and would like to get some good shots. Can you recommend any settings that would be good? Should I just put it in TV and get a high shutter speed or would sports mode or something else be better?

I used those settings for a recent air show and they work (along with auto mode) but the biggest problem was tracking the flight path to get a good shot, the slower biplane was easy, F22 - not so easy!
I ended up getting excellent shots of the static displays

My only advice to you is do NOT zoom right in ... it may seem a good idea on paper to fill the frame with close ups of aircraft - but in practice it's damn hard to track fast moving objects at 432mm. Zoom in about 1/2 way - or even less - then crop in when you pp the shots.

Tv is the obvious choice, try around 1/800 for nice sharp shots - keep your ISO reasonably low. about 1/160 - 1/80 for movement in props - but be aware your pans are going to have to be smooth to get good results. Use the LCD not the viewfinder (unless you keep both eyes open).

Manual focus - or continuous AF (setting manual to infinite usually works) - turn IS OFF or continuous. Pan through the shot and continue panning AFTER the shot has finished - this keeps it nice and smooth.

That should get you started - good hunting.

Cheers.

ps - practice on birds to get a feel for the shutter speeds / delay

Shoot as if it were film

Use the EVF not the back LCD; you may want to use Continuous mode for a higher shot rate but it'll fill the buffer faster.

Thanks for all the help! I tried several different setting and I think I shot on landscape...makes no sense (to me at least) but it looked the best! Ive posted some in transportation if anyone has any tips for doing it better next time.
