I like it, portrait defoes the way to go here. Makes you think : Whats in there!? Just the right light to silhouette the peeps. Flash would've killed it.

Very nice shot, difficult to expose. The subject of the shot is clearly the lit chasm at the end, but you have metered off of too much of your framing walls. This has overexposed the chasm you want.

One technique would be to walk to the lit end, and exposure lock on the wall. Then walk back and take the shot.

A very rough edit (it's not art, just a visual of its potential) to bring down the brightness of the chasm while maintaining the dark walls:

I doubt that anyone could do any better than that with a true HDR.

Leuce I like your rough edit, definite improvement. The dilemma when taking photos on run when traveling in a group especially in a narrow chasm is you get little time to frame set the camera and shoot, but if I had been a bit smarter I could have bracketed then maybe applied HDR, something I've not tried to date. I would be interested in comments on the crop and ultimate composition.
