I see this as someone posting "Do I need a claw hammer or a ball peen hammer?"

It all depends on what you are planning to do with that hammer. ........

Precisely what I say every time another silly thread asking about these two lenses comes up. I wish people would search, or decide for themselves. Your own particular photography and shooting style should make it clear which is more appropriate.

I love how silly people respond to silly threads when I clearly stated, that this isn't a debate about what is better or what use these lens are for...I think we have covered that in all the threads that goes on here. If I had the option to close out response and just leave it a poll, we would prevent silly people like you from posting silly responses when you don't even read the thread to begin with.

IN addition, where did I say anything about me deciding based on what the highest poll rates are.

For all the silly people who wants to keep trying to give their two cents about the difference between the two....

Here let me make it simple for you.

Which one do you have? The 24-70 or the 24-105, use your left mouse button to select one of those and move on. You don't like the thread, move on.

It's people like you that beat threads like this over and over. Complain about how there are so many threads out there, well guess what no one asked you to respond to this thread. I made it nice and dumb for you, select a radio button. Nothing stated, press REPLY to put your two cents.

I always thought 24-70 was an awkward focal range.

They are both great lenses - I researched both of them very carefully when I made my choice - but my choice was based on my personal needs.

When you find out which lens most people have - how will you use the information? Will the poll information help you decide which lens to choose?

I think that's what some of us are saying, but perhaps in a not so polite way.

Good luck with the decision - you won't regret your choice - they are both really nice lenses. When I showed mine to a fellow photographer I met by chance, she was so impressed that she was going to get the same lens as her next purchase.

i think you should try both and see what suits you best....and eventually you probably will from what i've witnessed on this board :D.

i owned the 24-105L for eight months, sold it, and now i've used the 24-70L for the past two years.

I was talking about 24-70 vs 24-105 threads in general ;)

I've owned the 24-105.
then sold it and got the 24-70 and continue with it.
it depends what you are doing(want to do) and a matter of personal choice I guess.

My apologies then. But I agree topics regarding versus threads does become redundant but this is what forums are for...Yes, people can search but if you are here to help then do so. Otherwise, people should simply not respond. That is essentially my point in this.

I definitely wont' regret my choice, heck I'll even go as far as probably think I may change my mind in the future but 24-70 for me due to my shooting style and situations I'm usually in. I need fast lens.

The poll is really more for curiosity. If people want to contribute their experience between a 24-70 or 24-105 or plainly their experience moving from one over the other due to .... (whatever). Great!

Otherwise, it's interesting to see (at least for me).

I love to help, but I find people take these resources for granted and instead of helping themselves they just want answers spoonfed to them.

These are L lenses we are talking about. I LOVE my 24-105. I am sure if I went with the 24-70 I would LOVE it.

L lenses are kinda like your kids, you love them all the same but each in their own special way!

[SIZE="1"](And I am sure there are some of you out there that would trade your kids for some nice L's! :) )

I have both and mount them on different bodies and run them sort of as backups in a way to each other.

Just got the 24-105 (after a lot of thought, research and input from people here) and I love it. Sharp as anything and it's a great all-around lens for most situations. I was originally going to go with a 17-40L actually, but decided on this because I got a good deal and the focal length can be used in more applications than something with less range. The IS is a plus too, and it does wonders for my shaky hands.

But if you'd like to see what the 24-105 is all about, why not take a trip to your local camera shop and try both on your camera body? Any good (and usually privately owned) camera store will let you try the lens on-site before you buy.
