Hi Canon400,

I have mine with AA under contents cover as an extra cover for valuables, personal belonings and money. They will only cover each item up to £1500.00 anything over that and your screwed. If you had a 1ds III you would need to get cover on it only. It costs me about £40 a year and that covers me for £7500.00 of loss. Hope I don't need it anytime soon. It's just piece of mind to know it's covered.

Oh one more thing, I didn't need to show them recipes they just wanted the serial numbers and the value of each item. You may want to check with your homeowners insurance to see if they offer cover for your stuff.

There is another thread that's just about not active on this same issue. I was able to insurance my stuff (~$5000 for less than $80/yr), however at least one other person was denied but it sounds like he was denied because he is in Florida.

I'm sure insurance companies are on the look out for expensive payouts because of new orleans devastation.

People are always big about adding camera equipment on to a homeowner's policy. If you don' t ever file a claim, no problem.

HOWEVER, bear in mind that that policy is to cover damage to your house. If you make frequent claims (say like 2 claims in our area), you may find your homeowner's insurance gets cancelled.

That will cause you all kinds of problems if happen to have it mortgaged (since it needs to be insured)...........

So becareful and consider all options when insuring your equipment.

i agree about the cancellation thing happening. i have a separate rider on my homeowners policy to cover the gear i have(not much but costly). cost about 30 bucks i think. anyway, i wear hearing aids and after i made a claim to replace them(they were in a backpack which was stolen while i was waiting for a train) state farm dropped me after 15 years of doing business with them, with 2 claims filed during that period. so much for loyalty huh???? talk to your agent/broker and see what they say, they may want to write a separate policy for you.

P51Mstg,

That's an awesome point that I didn't think of. I may have to look into one of the photography associations that gives its members access to insurance, that way its not attached to my house.

I actually called a completely new agent to just inquire about getting a policy for my equipment. They said that don't do that sort of policy but you can do an add-on. That's when I called my agent to inquire about pricing.
