50mm is such a versatile FL on FF and this lens is the best 50mm I've used.

More from Borough Market... Every time I use this lens, I stop thinking about the 50L.

Thank you for the suggestion :). Yeah I did that too. When I set it to 0 I could focus at long distances (+25feet) correctly but its front focused for short distance subjects (~5feet.)

at +13 backwards it tries to focus subject at least 50feet away eventho the subject was about 25feet

Although I don't have a camera with MA, mine was horribly off at all distances. After calibration, it's very good now. Either return it or send it in. You'll probably have to send it in, even if you buy new.

Mine behaves about the same way. I can't send it back to the seller because I got it before I got my 50D, so there was no way to know that the misfocus was a function of the distance to the subject.

I'll probably send it in anyway, though, just to see if they can do something with it.

I sent mine in, even though I didn't notice anything wrong with it. I figured it would be easier to sell with calibration paperwork. I hate to take advantage of a warranty like that, but I'd seen too many people with QC issues to take a chance. It's my most-used lens, which is saying something, as it's also my least-expensive lens!

I made it up to Sigma, though: I also sent in my 30mm f/1.4 and paid for that one to be calibrated. It went with my 40D kit to a friend for $100. (yes, the whole kit and lens. I like my friends!)

I have just ordered mine from Amazon.
After reading some posts I found out about the focusing-calibration problem this lens may have.
I also read this article:http://www.lensrentals.com …s-is-soft-and-other-myths (external link) , which explains clearly the problems.

My question is: Will I have problems with my XSI? How can I test it?. It doesn't offer microcalibration like the 50D, so What should I do if I find a focusing problem with my camera?

Thanks in advance

My lens was perfect from the factory, as I assume most are. That was an interesting link, though!

You probably won't notice any problems, but if you do, I would imagine that the best thing to do would be to send the Sigma to the factory under warranty. If that doesn't work, send the XSi to Canon under warranty and have it calibrated. All those options suck, so lets hope your copy is perfect!
