Can I be your friend? :D

I just figured that maybe she'll take it somewhere I lack the talent to do!

This baby on a full frame might just be perfect.

It is perfect. ;)

If you're happy using it with the 40D, wait till you get your 5D. :)

Random thoughts....
You know, it's funny, most of us here love quality, fast glass and own a lot of L's....because they usually mean top notch quality, some of us have owned multiple 50mm lenses, the Sigma, In my opinion is the best auto focus 50mm you can buy for EOS....better than the 50L and better than the EF 50/1.4.....it's at least $750 cheaper than the L and.....it's better.....Just buy one, if it isn't perfect, take the chance and send it to Sigma...Yeah, it sucks that you have to do it, but when you get it back, you'll have the best....and I'm guessing that's what we all want.....

I agree with Matt. It's by far the best non-L glass I have owned, even better than the 30mm f/1.4 EX. It's my most-used lens. I wouldn't trade it for anything under $1000.

I got this lens in Shanghai! My first contribution to this thread, shot wide open (of course):

I've later calibrated the lens to +20 with microadjustments on the 5D-II. Still not 100% spot on though :/

How many of you need to have your 50 micro-adjusted? I just picked one up today and I like it so far. However, mine is very back focused. I need -15 micro adjustment correction. I am going to exchange another one tomorrow. Bought it at Adorama..

With the Sigmalux in particular, why does it seem like those who have cameras without MA don't need MA?

Bill is my name - I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.

If the lens is properly focused, is great. Here is a test shot.

The sharpness of this lens is spectacular. AI servo mode shooting through an aquarium glass at F2.8. I only use RAW sharpness at 7. Shooting with a 1dmarkIII, ISO1600.

While I do think the 50 has QC issues, I think there is a lot of hysteria over the variability of this lens. Especially if you're using it on a FF camera, the DOF is VERY unforgiving wide open. I thought mine was front-focusing, but decided I was too lazy to send it in, and not anal/pixel-peepily enough to worry about it too much.

But, judging by the shot I posted above (since I know what I focused on), it's pretty damn good.
