I sent mine in to Sigma for calibration. It's really easy, and I think it came back better than it was before.

I did the same and mine is much better as well. I have not been able to fully test. But the simple hand held shots I've made so far at 1.4 are much sharper than before. My lens was clearly front focusing.
I was told it would take 3-4 weeks to return from Sigma New York, but mine arrived at Sigma on 11/25 (week of Thanksgiving) and was repaired and shipped out on 12/3, arriving back to me on 12/8.

Got mine a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it now that I have it on a 50D instead of the 40D. Front focusing was horrible at f/1.4 - 1.8 (the main reason I bought this lens over the Canon). Should I just say heck with it and keep using it micro adjusted, or should I send it in for a recalibration? Any benefits other than being able to use it on either body? I didn't wade through all the posts, but I'm assuming you just call Sigma and tell them you're another one of many with a front focusing 50/1.4 and need it recalibrated?? Thanks

I have two, and the early 50/1.4 siggy that I bought has been working perfectly.

I think that there was some early stuff about ff/1.3 bodies though. Did you read earlier about the serials? Or was that another thread here or on FM?

Test yours at various camera to subject distances. Mine frontfocuses, but the degree of microadjustment necessary to counteract it varies with camera to subject distance. I end up having to vary the adjustment between +5 and +15 depending on how far I am from the subject.

If yours is like that then you should send it in for calibration. I intend to do that but I want to be able to use my lens during xmas vacation, so I'm holding off.

If mine worked with a fixed adjustment value then I wouldn't bother sending it in...

If you compare this to 50L threads, then it's functioning as intended

Man. I want this lens!

So does it cost anything (besides shipping) to get a lens calibrated at Sigma? I might just send in my 30mm, just to be sure it's perfect...

It costs nothing. You should probably send your camera along with it so they can calibrate the lens to it.
