b&h and adorama should both be selling the new finish, pic maybe old but should be new. i bought mine 6 months ago from b&h and got the new finish.
amazon should be new finish also, either finish is still a good lens!

and here is another one.

I've read that they have dropped the old finish and will be bringing the new out on new products. They probably will do this in new production runs of older models, but I suspect it will be the luck of the draw for a while.

I have the older finish. It is not obtrusive. As long as the optics do what I expect, I don't care what finish a lens has.

Thanks for your answer. The reason I asked is because I had a Sigma 24-70mm that had that old finish and I did not like how it felt in my hands plus it got scratched just by looking at it.If I cant find the new one I will certainly go with the old finish.Im a bit concerned about looks and feeling but optics is what matters.

I've had mine for (I think) a couple years now....I have the old finish, looks great still....It's always in my bag and on and off my camera a lot..Not a permanant scratch or knick, they just rub off...Anyways just a FWIW

Is the new finish all black or the greyish stuff? Mine is 6 months old from B&H and it is smooth black finish not what you see on B&H web site.

thats the new finish, old finish is sorta grainy and tends to chip after a while

i just got mine from B&H about a month ago... new finish. Im 99% sure if you order from B&H or Adorama you will get the new finish.

On that note I shot a wedding last week and put my lens hood on a random table while switching lenses and quickly stepped aside to grab a shot that I saw happening only to arrive back to a broken lens hood on the ground!!!! oh well.
I searched B&H for a lens hood but couldn't find it.... any suggestions ? thanks!

A friend of mine was getting engaged and wanted me to capture their experience. The Sigma performed like usual.

I got my hood stolen at one point (luckily that was pretty much it!). I lived without a hood for a while. One day I wanted to get my lens calibrated so I hand wrote a note basically explaining the situation and tada my lens came home with a brand new hood free of charge.
