Does Canon always record this lens as "Canon EF 17-35mm f/2.8L or Sigma Lens" in the EXIF

People complain about this lens, but if you know how to get the best out of it, it's a fantastic bargain.

I apologize if some of these are repeats, but I don't look around here too much anymore. These are my favorites. The last one needed a tripod, which I don't have.

QUOTED IMAGE

not necessarily about knowing how to get the best out of it, or whatever. sure if youre not used to wide apertures it will take a bit to learn, but there are legitimate complaints about this lens. sure i love the IQ from it, but it took a while to get it where it is today. now my copy is doing quite well, even in the dark.

as for your last shot...it looks like clear focus was achieved on the leading corner of the table....unless that was your intention. dont know that the lack of a tripod was the only problem here.

Heres one from my last wedding...i was impressed it was keeping up with the subjects, even using off-center focus points on the 5D

mine shows up as a 50mm. assume the sigma designation is buried somewhere in there as the lens profiler in ACR 6 recognizes it.

Alan, if your client isn't overjoyed with that picture he's an idiot. Probably end up framed, hanging on the wall behind his desk. Looks like the cover of a DVD box set--the new Sopranos or something.

And Noodlz, I like that first one a lot. Is she jumping?! In those heels it looks dangerous as hell.

has anyone used this for sports and how did it perform auto focus wise as far as speed when shooting servo

considering this for basketball, my sigma 30 did great when i tested it out tonight but it is a little short but very usable i think

IMO, the AF is too slow and tends to search. I think my lens front focuses, too. I'll manual focus and anticipate the subject for sports.

thank you, i know this 50 is a stellar performer especially for the price since a 50L is too much money for me and just not necessary for someone shooting at my level and what im shooting. not even sure if the 50L would do good for basketball with all that glass inside of it.

i think ill stick with my 50 1.8 for sports until it breaks. although i do want a sigma 50 one day because it puts out some great images

Racking focus seems a bit slower than the Canon USM lenses I have used, but that's a bad marker of true AF speed, as I have not had the lens rack focus while trying to focus on anything yet. My copy tends to focus quickly and accurately so far. I haven't tested it's tracking abilities yet though...

if you ever get a chance please post because i am curious as to how this lens does in servo for sports like basketball

i am used to shooting with my 50 1.8 which happens to track very nicely despite its lack of USM so i can only imagine that the EF 50 1.4 would be a little better but i dont know much about micro-USM.
