Well, I'm going to be putting my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 up for sale in the sell forum in the next few days. I've decided to keep the Zeiss 50mm f/2 makro despite its lack of autofocus. The macro is really too handy.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I thought all sigma lenses came with a 5 year warranty automatically. Am I wrong?

This lens has a 10 year warranty in Canada

Bummer, just got my new one and it is front focusing badly. I have used MA on my 5D2 and got it fairly close at plus 18. Now, it looks like when I focus on something far away it is off horribly but when I focus on an eye close range the 18 MA has worked well.

Darn I hate to have to send it off as soon as I get the thing. So has anyone been satisfied to adjust all the way to plus 18? Will this cause far away focus to be way off?
One nic thing about buying new is that I can take my time before sending it off to Sigma. I could just return it to Adorama but then if the next one is off it's just that much more wasted time and trouble, so I think sending it to Sigma will be the fastest route to a good working lens. DAMN I was hoping I could get lucky and get one that was spot on. Man this is painful to think of having to send it off right away.

Mine was set to +20 on my 5D2 but worked quite well after that. Its at +8 on my 5D3.

Well, I took the lens outside with it set at plus 18 and took some shots of my car rims from a good distance and it was them back focusing many many feet, like the other side of the road. I was stunned. So I set it back to zero adjustment and went out again, and it seems spot on from a distance.

So I came back and took a few more of my Daughters boyfriend, this time I tried to make sure he was directly looking at the camera, and the focus looked better.

Finally I got my tripod out and took a few of the wall paper design. I swear, it now looks best at zero adjustment I think. I was hand holding and taking a portrait when I first checks and checked at 1.4, 1,6, 1,8 and 2.0. But now I am starting to believe that I was moving slightly in and out or my subject was, though I was being as still as possible.

Now I am hopeful that this was just me not holding the camera steady at such a thin DOF, but then again, anytime I want to take portraits with isolated background won't I normally be shooting hand held at thin DOF?

My Canon 100 F2 has no problems at F2 that I have noticed at all.

Try using it in AI Servo, I get much more accurate results from mine in Servo!

I'll give servo a try tomorrow, sounds good.

I set mine up on a tripod and worked it to +5 for front focusing. I feel like I want to go higher but if I do I fear that focusing on objects further away will result in horrible back focus. It was horrible at +18, yet close up portrait looked sharp. Anyway, here is plus five.

OR - you use our pre-ship testing service?

We can do this, provided we have both the lens and a demo body in at the same time. You need to be aware of - and agree to - the following:

  • we cannot guarantee 100% that you will not still need to send your own body and lens off to Sigma together for re-calibration, but we are definitely finding that by carrying out these checks beforehand that we've been able to reduce significantly the possibility of this being required

  • your purchase will in theory be 'open box', but we will nevertheless need to charge you the full purchase price, as we are only opening it up to provide you with this additional service

  • Shipping may be delayed by a couple of days as our DC manager does this himself on request, and needs to fit it into his existing workload.

What you need to do is call or email your order in to Manny in our sales department - annyn@adorama.com (external link). 800.223.2500 | Local 212.741.0401

Explain to him what you want - he needs to personally forward your order confirmation number to Adam in our DC so that it doesn't enter the main shipping process.

I wish I would have known about this before I bought this one. I never saw anything about this. I don't have the money to charge another lens. I guess I could send this one back and have it done before the next one is shipped out, would that be alright? I definitely know I don't want a refund, even testing this lens has been incredible because of the quality of the rendering and such, so I definitely want a good copy of tis lens.

So, I have 30 days at Adorama, so I would like to test this lens for a couple weeks and maybe I will find that the +5 MA is enough and that I am happy with it. Or I could send it to Sigma, or back to Adorama for the testing on a new one.

Thanks for letting me know about this.
