I just sent mine off today to C.R.I.S. hopefully it will come back and be as excellent as the copies you guys have. I really really really want to love this lens.

it'll depends where you live. I'm in CA but wanted to send it in to Sigma in the eastcoast but they forwarded to CRIS since they are closer to me. CRIS, i believe is a 3rd party that Sigma contract to have their lenses service there.

It's more about FF/BF issues and if you have microadjust, you don't have to waste your time sending it to Sigma

If you have front/back focusing,it will be soft. :p

I assume you mean the Canon 50 1.4. Yeah it can be a little soft wide open. Often it's user error too (I use to own the Canon and it tested sharp to me, just the DOF is so shallow I think a lot of people say it's "soft" but really they've messed up somehow).

Tried the Sigma 50 1.4. I like everything about it except the near inevitability that it needs calibrating, which sort of defeats the point for me since I would want to use it on my everyday, bring with me everywhere camera (5D classic) and couldn't be bothered dealing with recalibration issues...

...though, there certainly are times I think to myself it might be worth the hassle. ;)

Buy locally. Bring a focus test chart with you and a laptop. Test as many lenses as you can and buy the best copy. That way, you wouldn't need to get it calibrated ;)

I tend to agree, my EF 50/1.4 was pretty darn sharp.

I bought it and is scheduled for delivery sometime between 8am - 7pm today. So what am I shooting first??? Besides the fact that I'm shooting the lens wide open and going for that "Mr Bokeh look".
...having a bit of trouble getting some sleep tonight due to anxiousness. Don't think I've been this excited about a lens before!

I posted the same thing a few pages back... except mine happens after infinity that the focus appears to be more off.

From what I've seen so far, closer objects needed about a +10 adjustment (thank heavens for that). When I focus on a distant object it then backfocuses:( Took a shot of the sandbox in the back yard at about 50ft and it was OOF slightly while the toy kitchen set right behind it was pretty good. Since it does both, not sure if sending it in will help? Love the lens though!

That's getting hard to do. Cincinnati has no camera shops that I'm aware of that carry a majority of lenses.
