The other day I had someone e-mail me about buying about 10 of my portfolio pictures for personal use around their house, I've never had a request like this yet so I was wondering how should I price them so they aren't to much but not a give away.

Just prints or they want the digital images?

Prints, just figure out your cost x2.
Images, check smugmug and see how much it something similar from there.

Just my 2 cents, (well pence really), but there is no way I would hand over dig files of my portfolio photos. By definition they must be the best ones you have and you will have no control over what happens to them. Ask them what sizes they want, how they want them mounted, work out how much it will cost for you to supply them then times it by 3. I tried the double thing once and by the time it was all over I still made almost nothing from it.

No to files, prints charge $100 each for medium size (say up to 15x10) and $200 each for larger sizes.

You guys are being harsh. You think people can't scan in a nice print?

If someone wants a digital file, I would be more than happy to sell it to them, with proper compensation.

Its all matter of compensation. My sister had a horrible issue with her wedding photographer. He completely screwed up her pictures, the few good pictures he did have, he wouldn't let her have the digital images even though she offered a lot money for them. His reason: "Well what if someone else form the wedding wanted to order prints." As it turns out in email thank you email she advised everyone not to get prints from him. We used all the pictures from the videographer and people with DSLR and P&S and we still have over 1500 pictures, about 50 of them were VERY nice.

Yeah, Im kinda not wanting to sell them to this person simply because I can sell them to the artists record company and make hundreds if i knew how. And also all of the pictures the buyer wants are of popular musicians. I offered to have them printed and mailed and would have found out how much the prints would be and tack on my fee but they said that it wouldn't work since they wanted to make a couple different sizes for around the house. So I was going to send them a downsized file with my name marked on the photo for a fee. Does that sound ok? I dont trust sending them the actual file for reprinting, never know where it would end up.

Hey, you don't want to sell them, you don't have to. :) Its the beauty of the capitalistic/commerce system.

If they can agree on you putting watermarks on them, all the better.
