Since I judge my shots by composition, color, capturing the moment, etc, my keeper rate is less than 5%. I have MANY sharp shots that are otherwise blah. I don't count these as keepers.

Well I actually "keep" them in Lightroom, but I don't rate them. I give the real "keepers" a rating of 2 to 5 stars. Of about 6000 shoots,I only have about 200 rated shots and only 4 that have a 5-star rating. With digital photography, it's easy to keep 1000's of photos but most of what I have, I'll never show to anyone.

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.

Canon T4i (2 lenses), Fuji X100s, Olympus OM-D EM-1 (3 lenses)

Reuters has posted a useful story (external link) on the real-world challenges of getting good images, even with experienced photographers, pre-planned locations and dozens of people to take pictures at a realatively static event - the Olympic opening ceremonies. Their "keeper ratio" is interesting. :)

My personal standards rise as my skills increase so my keeper rate is always about the same, but on a like for like basis I have probably increased from 10% to 60% in about 2 years.

My keeper ratio is 100% Because of the low price of DVD media, I see no reason to ever throw anything away. It's cataloged, burned to dvd, then wiped from the harddrive.

On the other hand, my "usability ratio" is substantially lower. There have been times after shooting an entire day that I have reviewed images and thought not a single one was sellable quality. So in that case, it's 0%. :)

I'm confused because I might have read the question wrong,
I figure I keep 1 shots out of 10 1:10 or would that be 10 shots for ever 1 keeper? 10:1 (if I am lucky) so like 10%....on most days, like 2-5%

DC fan - thanks for the link.
Very interesting reading over morning coffee. :)
I was amazed at the staggering number of pictures taken. And that's all before the games begin.

less than 1%, I rarely keep a photo. 500 frames yields about 4 keepers, and of those 4 keepers, I only look at one and hide the other three.

I'd say that its about 15% of what I shoot I keep. If it shows any softness whatsoever, it meets the delete key.

Your camera is alot smarter than the "M" Zealots would have you believe
