Great choice....
I wasted money on the kit lens, and had to order the 17-55 two.weeks later.
Still I had two doses of excitement.

Thanks everyone! I was really worried I might of picked the wrong lens to start out with but from what you all are saying I made the right choice. This waiting is killing me! I'm gonna have to go buy some more wine for tonight :D HAHA

I clicked into this thread thinking it would be a macabre tale about someone dropping their gear or something

Congrats on the purchase!

Although there is a down side. Depending on what equipment you are shooting with currently but I'm making the assumption that it is not a DSLR, you won't get that WOW effect as those that are replacing a lesser piece of glass. When you shoot with the kit lens for a while and then replace it with the 17-55 the WOW effect is dramatic. But your starting at the top already. :)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

You assume correctly, this will be my first DSLR. And, I figure since I have the money NOW, I may as well start out with the best lens I can. You know how money is, in a few weeks it would of been spent on something or other and I wouldn't have the lens I want. There are several others I want as well, but I thought I should learn how to use the camera with one lens first. :D

After several weeks of reading everything I can, (and finally getting my finances in order) I have purchased the 40d and 17-55 IS lens along with necessary accessories. Now I just have to wait until tuesday :D. My nerves are shot! HaHaHa

After pushing that very expensive buy button I had to get myself an extra large glass of wine  Talk about butterflies going crazy in my stomach! uggghh I won't be able to eat until it gets here. LOL

Just got your finances in order? I always use Bill Me Later ... so that limits me to spending every 3 months.

Oh, dear! If you really believe that then there is no hope for you.

Thats what we all thought the day we got our first digital - and now look! I wouldn't mind betting that your mind will race to your next new lens about 2 hours after this one arrives!

Enjoy your new purchase - but I'm affraid it wont be your last!

Congratulations! I feel your pain. I too have been struck with lens fever...I think the waiting game just makes it more exciting though. By the way, I am moving to eastern oregon in a few months...Do you like living out there?

Hey, congrats! You have made a great start -- both the camera and the lens are real keepers that you will likely never regret!

Ain't it nice when you can take a step like this that will really add to your quality of life!
