Hi everyone,
When I first got my 40D about six months ago, I quickly spotted a bright red dot nearly in the center of night shots (just normal shots with rather typical exposures, but lots of darkness in the center). I stumbled on the suggestion to do lens cleaning with the lens cap on for 30 seconds, and it worked. The spot disappeared.
Afterwards, I read that this does not work in firmware versions after 1.0.3, and, in fact, if you upgrade beyond 1.0.3, the spots come back. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm not sure I have any reason to upgrade, even if the pixel mapping trick worked, but all the same I am curious.
