Nope, don't know how you could be considered orthodox whilst photographing on the shabbat.

If they did that, they wouldn't be Orthodox :/

I lived in NYC most of my life growing up, there was usually no commercial anything for the Orthodox Jews in my neighborhood on the Sabbath. All stores and schools were closed.

Check out our good friends at B&H. Friday at 2 they close, Saturday at 9:17 (yesterday at least, changes every weekend in accordance to sunset) they open again. In between, you can't place orders even online.

Besides, I though orthodox are not supposed to work, use electricity, drive, or even step outside the community on Saturday?

Now, if you are asking for yourself, even considering doing that means you are really not an orthodox at heart, and you'll have to do what you feel is best for yourself. Just because you were born into a religion doesn't mean that you have to practice it your whole life. I'm a non-practicing catholic, and i have some jewish friends with semi-strict family. We used to go camping all the time, and bacon was a favorite breakfast food. None of that fake cow bacon, the good, greasy pig's belly type that would make a rabbi cry. If your livelihood depends on shooting Saturdays, do it. Religion doesn't put food on the plate (unless you are a photog for a church/temple/other place of worship).

I like the "sometimes" option
