On average how much do you over-expose your images to move the histogram to the right?

I normally shoot in Av and let the camera set my shutter speed without exposure compensation. On occasion I'll use EC for conditions like snow or dark scenes.

I have started to use EC when using my 300 2.8 and 2x, adding 1/3 or 2/3 stops.

Do many of you over/under expose on a regular basis? With what results? Do you have any lenses that you compensate exposure when using?

My XT tended to overexpose in Tv and Av modes with 0 EV, whereas it would brutally underexpose in A-Dep. P mode worked fine, but I used M and chose my own exposure 95% of the time anyway so I was never really bothered by it.

I expose as far right as I can without clipping highlights that should have data. Flashing highlights helps. Especially if PP and/or RAW. The Luminous Landscape has a good tutorial on ETTR - I've found it did not lead me astray...

I don't worry about "how much" or "average" - I just do what needs to be done - and regularly look at the histogram.
