Need Help Freezing Motion!

I shoot horses a lot, here is a link to one of the recent shows I shot. These images were shot at 1/1000 and 1/1250 with a 100-400mmL IS lens. The ISO was 200, aperture 5.6 most of the time. Even with that shutter speed the subject moves about 1/2" in the time that the shutter is open. Careful sharpening as the last step before printing will help with the small problems you might have. Keep your eye to the shutter and until you have what you want, then squeeze the shutter button. The password is bosky

If a moderator asks you get back on topic, it is not a request. It is a moderator being polite. I strongly advise you treat it as something more than a suggestion.

There are several very good pointers in this thread. There is a lot more technique involved in photographing moving objects than stationary subjects. Scanning, faster shutter, higher ISO if necessary. They will all help.
