I shot my Mustang (red) and my uncle's (silver) after some thorough detailing. This is my first real try at this subject. Before I went, I tried to find the automotive lighting thread, but couldn't :( Why isn't that stickied in Transportation?

Anyway, C&C/editing is welcomed and appreciated.
Thanks.

Nice mustangs.

Welcome to transportation. Not a bad start. I'm sure Frank will be by shortly with the lighting thread.

1. Looks OOF to me as well. I am not liking the location.
2. I think I know what you were attempting, but you need something of interest in the shot.
3 & 4. These are a little better. Location is much better but there is a bush growing out of #3. (easy to miss that when your shoting just get used to looking for thing "growing" out of the cars).
5 & 6. It looks like you shot at a good time of day but shot the shaded side of the car. The wheels are lost.

An example for #2

Thanks for the comments.

That link is really discouraging. My shots are so amateur. I guess the professional photos have professional lighting as well. That's something I will probably never get my hands on.

I did not post it to discourage you. :( It was shot with natural light. It was late in the after noon near the perfect hour.

the first one is a bit soft. the others have a great concept, and are pretty good for your first try.

and dont worry, professionals are professionals. they devote a lot of time doing what they do. its like you being discouraged because you cant play football like peyton manning. you know what i mean?

oh, and jamie holladay, what car is that shift knob from?

Did you use a tripod? If you use a tripod and have a slower shutter the cars will have more detail in the lighting and such and not be as soft ;). Also, looking at other great photos shouldn't be discouraging since you can learn a lot just from viewing examples of others' work. Remember, everyone had to start out somewhere!

Anyways, good shots for a beginner. I agree with what has been said :).

Because it's already in 40% of the threads here? :D
A few Car Lighting Tips - Updated

It's nice to know that someone actually wants to read it, though. ;)

I guess the professional photos have professional lighting as well. That's something I will probably never get my hands on.

You already have the proper pro equipment - your eyes. As I said in my thread, "LOOK AT IT" first & find an angle where it looks good. Don't just park it & start shooting.
That might also avoid having a pole growing out of the body as in #s 1, 5, &6.

Did you use a tripod?

Good question & tip!

Sometimes you want the sunset behind you to get the right reflections in the car: Some shots of Jim's '68 AMX

Lots to think about. Overall, you gave it a good effort & just need some fine tuning.
