That's a great catch. We've got one similar at the very top of Door County, in Wisconsin, USA. Known as the Curvy Highway, Route 42T.

this one had outlived its safety and was just too costly to fix
There had been some massive slips and much was shore up on stone walls designed for T models and horse and carts
The road literally hugged the landscape
It is now closed

This was an old track I surveyed out of Lorinna to the high ground in 2008 in the hope it was suitable for a replacement. It never saw development.

Lorinna is a bit of a Shangri-la.
A valley deep in the interior and for years only accessed by narrow windy and at times dangerous road.
It is now served by a modern access that is very steep but a lot safer.
Beautiful place if you like isolation

Nice! I am planning a tour around Tassie early next year. - Probably February or March, once the Christmas / New Year crowds have gone home. I think that I'll put Lorinna on my list of places to visit.

Larry it's worth a look if you're into, amongst other things, living alternative lifestyle.
The world has slowly caught up to their unique ways.
There's solar, wind, hydro power generated on an individual scale. Yerts, log cabins, old 1900's houses, mud brick, rammed earth and the modern of modern.
The people aren't ones for open arms but they won't be hostile. No shops or fuel.
The new road has changed it somewhat as access is easy as opposed to slow windy narrow road.

Many would find it boring. I love the place

I did my first survey for a new government road to a property owner there about 1972. And it was remote.
One day we met a group of ladies heading out for a walk up into the hills. Read thick bush.
Dress was varied and everything under the sun.
One had Blundstone boots, another bare feet with mud oozing up between the toes.

We had a chat and went our respected ways.
Came back to the Ute at end of day and a beautiful round fruit cake was sitting on seat with a note.
"From the Ladies of The Valley". Wish I'd kept the note.

Yes, it's alpine vegetation on a road up to Mt Egmont.
