Never shot a road race before and certainly didn't intend to but sometimes things just present themselves and you need to run with em. I was actually in Ligonier, Pa to pick my daughter up from camp and naturally had the camera to take a few shots while there. I only took a flash and the 17-40 since it would suit any snapshots I might take. Well, when we had to take a small detour because the race was about to start, I got the itch and knew I had to convince my wife and daughter to let me pull over and hang out for a bit. Well, they were very patient and we waited about half an hour for the peloton to come on by. I picked a bad spot (not entirely by choice but at least I got to shoot) where they were flying! I was quite surprised at how tough panning is at this distance and speed. I did shoot with the flash on and spent quite some time trying to sort out how to get my settings right before they came through. Anyway, here's just a couple I got. I'm anxious to give this another try so I can work on my panning skills more.
