Hi

I need some decent memory for my 40D. I am thinking about Sandisk extreme III SD 8GB. Does anyone have experience of this or suggest anything decent.

Thanks ;)

I buy nothing less than SanDisk Extreme III; I've stayed with 4 GB so far as those hold several hundred shots on any of my cameras and back up nicely to a single DVD.

I would second this....only to say also that in my experience the Extreme IV downloads pretty darn fast for me!! I have both and will stay with both! I also stay w/ 4g max.

I will third the Sandisk Extreme III in a 4GB size. I may add some cheaper off brands just for back up later on though.

I use a cheapie Transcend 8gb 133x (external link) card ($33-ish)

I've never had any issues (with lost images/corruption/speed) using my 30d (RAW only, even in burst).

May need a faster write speed for that 40D though, but then again I rarely use burst for more than a few frames (10 max) at any given time.

+++1 on the Sandisk EIII Compact Flash Cards. I have them in both 4 & 8 GB variations, and I have yet to ever have a single problem with the cards. I have used cheapie cards, quote generics, and I have had corruption issues. But never have had a corrupt image from the E3 cards.

The SanDisk 8 Gig Extreme III is an excellent card and I believe that it is the one that makes the most sense with respect to size. I say this because it is pretty much the minimum size for shooting in RAW (if you aren't already doing so) unless you enjoy changing memory cards a lot. I only buy SanDisks and agree that the Extreme III's are the slowest cards you should use. I know that a lot of people have had good luck with other brands, but I have never regretted buying the best.

I use Lexar 2GB 133x with no problems. Even with the 40D I still get over 400 shots on that card.

530 Large fine JPEG on an Ultra II 2gb....158 RAW + Large JPEG.

I use a mix of 2 and 4gb cards for the most part....even shooting large + RAW a 4gb card lasts long enough for me and like Jon mentioned, it matches up perfectly with a DVD backup.
